Converting Hours & Minutes in excel

I have designed a simple worksheet for time analysis. I want to type in a cell a time that I have been at work for example 6.24 (this means 6 Hours and 24 minutes. How can I get a cell/format to convert this automatically into a decimal number ie 6.4 hours worked?
