Hardware consists of all machinery and equipment. In a computer system, the hardware includes, among other devices, the keyboard, the screen, the printer, the computer or processing devices, the mouse, and more. When you connect your computer devices, such as a printer and the screen to you computer, you connect a cable from the devices to the port (a connector) that appears on the back of you computer. Depending on the device, the type of cable you use to connect the device to you PC will differ.

Your Computer's Port

A port is a connector that let you connect a device to your PC. These devices include your monitor, a mouse, printer, keyboard, and other accessories. In the back of you PC, you will find several different ports through which a cable run to connect the divices to your computer.

The male and female ports.

The ports are designed as either male or female ports. Some ports are designed to plug into a cable, while other are designed for a cable to be plugged into the port. Ports and cables are classified as male or female, based on whether they plug in or are plugged into. A male cable or connector contains visible pins that plug in. On the other hand, a female cable or connector does not have such pins. If your computer has a female port, you need a male cable to connect and if it has a male port, you need a female cable. There is a gender changer that is also available in the market. It is used to change the cable from female to male or from a male to female to fit you computer need. The other difference in a port is the number of pins it has.
