The purpose of resume is to sell your skill and accomplishment, so it is important that you present yourself as a well rounded individual. You must use  strong vocabularies to bring-out you achievement, skills and educational background. List all your computer software, computer hardware, application programs, computer programming and any other skills you possess under the heading "Skill" or "Addition Skill". Also, at the end of your resume type "Reference available upon request".

Length of your resume

Most recruiters do not like a length resume, so make your resume short and to the point. Even if you have extensive experience and achievement you must try to make your resume fit one-page. Make sure that the list of experiences on your resumes are only those that are relevant to the current job possession you are applying for.

Printing Your Resume

Print your resume on 8-1/2 X 11-inch page. If your resume is in small-size paper, the recruiter might loose it in a pile of other resumes. Make sure that your resume is   printed in a quality paper that has a nice texture. The color of your resume paper should not be bright; it must be conservative.

Proof-read

It is common for people to make mistake when they type. It is important that your resume is grammar-proof and spell-proof. Even when you have hired someone to do your resume you must check that everything is correct and the way it should be. If you turn in a resume with a mistake to recruiters, it is not only embarrassing but it might jeopardize your being hired at the company. Many companies will not further consider your application. If your use Word Processing application program to write your resume, you can use the word processors spell check to do your spell checking for you. You can also take your resume to the closest college career center. Most College career center will help you edit your resume.

Resume type

There are two types of resume formats: the functional resume and the chronological resume.

  • Functional resume is the one that focuses on skill and experiences. These are mostly people how have experience in the field they are applying for. These people are currently employed or recently lost their jobs. If you fit into these categories then you must use functional resume type to setup your resume. You must place your career "Objectives" first, then you your "Skills", then work "Experience", then "Education", and then "Reference". Your "Experience" and "Skill" should come before your "Education".
  • Chronological resume is the one that focuses on a specific skill and education background. These type of resume are mostly used by recent college graduates or people how have been out of work for a while. These individuals are currently in college or they are graduating soon and are planning to enter the working world. If you fit into these categories then you must use chronological resume type to setup your resume. You must place your career "Objectives" first, then you your "Skills", then "Education", than your work "Experience", and "Reference". Your "Education" and your entire computer related "Skill" should come before your work "Experience".

Resume Content

When you write your resume, write your name first on one-line. After you name, your address, phone number and email address will follow in a separate line. When you write your objective, make it only two to three sentences. When you write your experience list the important thing you have accomplished in strong vocabulary and brief sentences. Do not make it wordy by trying to explain in detail what your have be doing. Avoid restating experiences that you have already mentioned earlier. Make your "Skill" heading a list that is setup in a sentence form. Make sure that your write the company's name and address, the month and year you were employed, and your job title at the beginning of each experience. Also, in your "Education" categories make sure you have the name and address of your school, your major, and the month and year you graduated or are anticipating to graduate.
