The WorldWide Web was first was invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. He wanted a system that would make it easy to access information from other researchers. His consultant background in Text-processing software development became handy when he build the worldWide Web in CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. This system was based on the concept of hypertext. These are texts with a link that has the ability to follow other links such as files, images, programs, and documents electronically located in a different computer.

The WorldWide Web system had had many names: WWW, the W3, the Web, the Net, and the Internet. It is made up of Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server and HyperText Markup Language (HTML) documentation. HTTP is the method used to transfer information between client and servers across the Internet. HTML is the codes and structure that defines the document presented on the Internet. In addition to these the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) place an important role on the WorldWide Web. The URL is a system used to identify where a particular resource is located on the Net. It 's the system used to specify the host computer, it's protocol type, and the directory and file the individual is currently trying to retrieve

There are a wide variety of methods used for publishing an Internet Web site: FTP servers, Finger Daemons also called programs, Hyper-G, Usenet News, Gopher, WWW, and WAIS. Internet publishing is has made making material available for viewing audience very simple. With a click of a button other Internet browser can get to your information. You can have information published on the Web in many forms. This publication can be as a plain text form, as a formatted text, as a hypertext, as a picture form, as a sound form, as a video form, as a database form, as an interactive maps form, or as a combination of these forms and more.

 Web Data Type

1. HTML

HTML is a method for Web page making. It is plain text format used in both structural and layout elements. It can be linked to other documents and images, sound, movie clips, and so on. You can write, serve and view HTML files on a Mackintosh computer, you can use Sun Microsystems workstation, you can use Windows NT workstation, or you can use Windows PC.

2. SGML

Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) is used to produce platform-independent (portable) documents. It is capable of providing a consistent scheme for describing a wide variety of documents. Currently many large organizations use SGML. They are planning to create for SGML a viewer that can be hooked up as helper application added to WWW browsers. One advantage to SGML is its ability to fully define every structural element in a text body.

3. PDF

Portable Document Format (PDF) is a method used to represent document, which is independent of the original application, software, hardware, and operating system.

4. Gopher

Gopher server system has a simple protocol that is easy to set up and maintain. The University of Minnesota first introduced it first in 1991. It is a system that requires the server to remember it's last contact. It provides access to Internet Server like FTP, telnet, and Usenet.

5. TIFF

Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) is used to format images. If you choose to view images on your WWW browsers, then the TIFF will automatically display inline TIFF images. This is the way browser handles GIF images.
