What Do Companies Do with Your Electronic Resume?

The resume goes into the company’s database. The database automatically generates a letter acknowledging that they have received your resume, such as "Thank you for your interest in our company. We will keep you in mind and notify you if there is a job opening…" This letter is not an instant reject or the job has not already be offered to someone else. This letter is generated before and recruiter has read the resume. The second thing that takes place is the sorting of the electronic resumes. Depending on the criteria of the keywords the resume is posted in the database and is available to recruiter from a six month up to a year. That is why it is suggested that you update and re-send your resume every six-month. You can also ask the human resource of the company the length of time they store resume in their database.

The Keyword Search

With regard electronic resumes, keywords are specific skills, titles, or other terms (Mostly NOUNS) that Human Resources would look for in a candidate’s resume as well as cover letter. After a key word search is performed, your resume is sorted into one or more job category based on the keyword (skills, education, job titles, and more). The large the number of categories your resume fell under the more the chance of you being employed with that company. It is advised that you submit only one resume to the same company. It is important to look focused in one area of a job, rather than appearing unsure. Since most companies’ resumes are sent to the same database, you would end up being considered for all opening anyway.
